Prof Dr. Paridah Md. Tahir

Prof. Dr. Paridah Md. Tahir is a Professor in the Faculty of Forestry, and holds a joint appointment as Director of Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products at the Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. Dr. Paridah’s research focuses primarily on novel bio-based composites and wood composites from agricultural and forestry resources for the sustainable bio-economy targeting the development of bio-based and eco-friendly alternatives to the existing petroleum-based products. She has authored more than 250 publications, including 150+ peer-reviewed journal papers, 10 book chapters, and 2 granted patents. Dr. Paridah’s involvement in wood-based sector particularly in the area of Biocomposite has been extensive particularly in the area of wood/fibre bonding, biocomposites and surface coating.  Nationally, she sits in several Technical committees (TC) for Timber; a Chairman for TC on Timber and Timber Products from 2011-14 and currently is the Chairman for TC on Wood-Based Panels. She has led a number of working groups and was instrumental in many of the published Malaysian timber standards. At international level, she has led the Malaysian delegations to ISO Plenary meetings since 2006 in which she is a convener for Working Group 4 (Test Methods) of ISO TC 218, and a project leader in SC3  (Plywood) of ISO TC 89.
